Current Meal Recipient FAQ
Can you leave my meal if I am not home?
No. For food safety standards and recipient safety checks, meals must be handed directly to you in person. Drivers are not permitted to leave food outside on a porch, door handle, or step unattended.
If you have a scheduled doctor’s appointment or will not be home during delivery time, please call our office in advance at 434-386-7200 so we can pause your delivery for that day.
In some very special situations we are able to leave meals if you have an approved cooler outside of your home that is used only for Meals on Wheels delivery. This must be approved in advance, and the cooler must contain a cold ice pack. You can call the office for additional infomation if needed. Will meals be delivered on holidays?
Yes! Meals on Wheels of Greater Lynchburg delivers hot meals every weekday, including all major federal and state holidays. Our dedicated volunteers love visiting on holidays!
What time should I expect my meal to arrive?
Deliveries occur every Monday through Friday between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Because our drivers are volunteers and traffic conditions vary, exact delivery times may shift slightly day to day. Please plan to be home during the lunch window.
How will I know if deliveries are canceled due to bad weather?
If inclement weather and/or dangerous road conditions prevent our volunteers from driving safely, we will post cancellation notices on our website homepage, on this page, and with WSET by 7:00 AM. We encourage you to keep your non-perishable emergency shelf-stable items on hand during the winter months.
What should I do if my medical needs change resulting in needed changes to my meal plan?
Please call our office at 434-386-7200 immediately if you have any changes to your dietary needs, food allergies, or special instructions. We will update your profile and menu requirements right away.
How do I temporarily pause or resume my meal delivery?
